Coach Gwaltney

Assistant Coach

Coach Garry Gwaltney begins his first full year with the Bears baseball program as a coach and is currently teaching business.

 

Coach Gwaltney will work with hitters and outfielders, as he works with all levels within the Bears HS program.  He was a four-year varsity starter at Mountain View from 2009-2013, playing several positions, mainly as a corner outfielder, first baseman, and pitcher.

 

Coach Gwaltney was the first Mountain View Bears baseball player selected as an all-county player, and was also selected as player of the month that year in March. As a senior, Coach Gwaltney was selected as a Pre-Season Under Armour All-American.

 

After high school, Coach Gwaltney chose to continue his baseball career at Gordon State College for two years, where he started as a corner outfielder and hit over .300 as a freshman. After two years at Gordon, he continued his playing career at Reinhardt University, where he toed the rubber as a pitcher for his last two seasons. Coach Gwaltney graduated from Reinhardt University in May of 2017, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Studies and a Minor in General Business.

Coach Gwaltney’s primary responsibility as a member of the Bears Staff has been as the Middle School Baseball Coordinator and head 13U Gold Coach.  In these roles, he has overseen the development of the middle school program at Mountain View. Under his guidance, the program expanded from one 13U team in the spring of 2018, to three teams this past fall- 13U Gold, 13U Black, and 14U. As the 13U Gold Head Coach, the team compiled an astonishing 27-1-1 record, winning all five tournaments they competed in during the fall season.
